The 65th annual NBA All-Star game was a game of change. Records were broken and legacies were completed. The All-Star game occurred on Sunday, February 14. The final score of the game was 196-173 and the West took the trophy home for the fifth time in the past six years.
The MVP of the game was Russell Westbrook who had 31 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. He brought energy to the game by making big plays including two electrifying dunks. Westbrook is the second player to ever win back to back MVP titles at the All-Star game. Another player with a great performance was his teammate Steph Curry. Curry scored 26 points including a half court shot at the end of the fourth quarter. Other players who had major performances off the bench for the West included James Harden, Chris Paul and Anthony Davis. These major outputs helped the West score their 196 points, the most ever scored by one team in an NBA basketball game. From the East, the game changing players were Paul George, John Wall, and Andre Drummond. These performances led to a score of 173 for the East. The combined points, 369, is the largest sum ever scored in a single NBA game. One player who broke a record was Lebron James. He passed Kobe Bryant for the all time leading scorer in the All-Star game.
Kobe Bryant ended his legacy with this All Star game. Bryant announced that he will be retiring after this season so this was his last time playing in the All-Star game. He was selected to play 18 times in 19 seasons and he played in 15 of those. Bryant has won 5 All-Star MVPs making him tied for most All-Star MVP awards in a career. He holds the record for most offensive rebounds in a game, 10, most field goals made, 119, and most steals, 38. He finished his final All-Star game with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. After being subbed out for the final time, he received a standing ovation not only from the crowd, but from all the players who were on the court. After the game, a lot of the players asked Bryant to sign their jersey for them. Bryant received an enormous amount of respect and gratitude as deserved as he is one of the best players to play the sport of basketball.
